Methodist Churches - Bristol District
Following the nationally recognised success of the eco-congregation programme at Bethesda Methodist Church (Cheltenham) their eco-coordinator (Mark Boulton) was invited to promote environmental concerns amongst local the Methodist churches. Bethesda recently received its second national eco-award and several other churches in the circuit and district are now considering joining the scheme.
At a recent Synod Mark - as the new District Environmental Advisor - gave a short presentation summarising his vision to promote greater awareness of sustainable development issues amongst the Methodist Churches of the Bristol District as an integral aspect of their Christian discipleship and outreach.
Special services focussing on the need for Christian stewardship of the environment have been held in a number of churches including a circuit service in the Bristol Kingswood Circuit. Several showing of the Al Gore film (An Inconvenient Truth) have been made in local churches.
News/information is currently disseminated courtesy of Rev Tim Harrison in the Political, Social and Economic Group (PSEG) newsletter but new ways of raising awareness on environmental issues are under consideration.
