At the end of November, world leaders will meet at the crucial UN climate talks in Paris (COP21). The Church of England, Christian Aid, CAFOD and Tearfund have come together to organise a Pilgrimage2Paris ahead of these talks.
Please pray for the pilgrims as they travel to Paris in an act of solidarity with those most affected by climate change.
Sunday 1 November and Tuesday 1 December: Pray and Fast for the climate
Saturday 28/Sunday 29 November, Saturday 5/Sunday 6 December: possible dates for prayer vigils for the success of the climate talks.
The Pilgrimage2Paris will start from St Martin-in-the-Fields in London on Friday 13 November and the planned route will reach Newhaven on 18 November. From here the pilgrims will take the ferry to Dieppe and continue walking to Paris.
The pilgrims are scheduled to arrive in Paris on 27 and 28 November, when they will join with pilgrims from across Europe. Several events are planned during their time in Paris, including handing in a petition to the UN and participating in the global climate march on Sunday 29th November.
A number of dioceses are planning to hold prayer vigils, mini pilgrimages/prayer walks and similar events to raise awareness and engage churches in praying for the success of the UN climate talks.
Events taking place in Paris before and during the UN climate talks include conferences, prayers and vigils, and an interfaith debate on climate. On Saturday 12 December, marking the end of the climate talks, there will be a French Climate Coalition march in Paris.
Various resources will be available, including a daily prayer/reflection booklet that is being prepared for use on each day during the pilgrimage and will contain contributions from each of the organisations involved.
More information on the Pilgrimage2Paris can be found on www.pilgrimage2paris.org.uk. The hashtag #Pilgrimage2Paris will be used on Twitter and Instagram to promote the events.
