Westminster, London

Join us at the mass lobby of Parliament on 17 June for an inspirational day of action on climate change. This will be your chance to tell the new government to take strong action to protect everything we hold dear that is threatened by climate change. Over 10,000 are expected representing all constituencies in the UK and MPs will come out to meet with them. Please sign up on the form at the bottom of this page.

What is happening?

At 12pm ecumencial church services will be taking place at the Emmanuel Centre on Marsham Street and at St Margaret’s Church in Parliament Square. Operation Noah supporters will be meeting up at 11.45am outside the Emmanuel Centre before the service begins, so please join us there. Further event details are here.

From 1pm to 4pm the lobby line will form to meet with your MP in the streets around Parliament. The lobby line will stretch down Millbank and across Lambeth Bridge. Each constituency will line up in alphabetical order within geographical regions and stewards will be available to help you find your place. We have prepared this short¬†climate lobby briefing with some tips and questions to ask your MP and you can also see the Climate Coalition’s key lobby demands on this MP Briefing which will be available on the day to give to your MP.

Between 2pm and 4pm there will be an interfaith, interactive art installation in the Archbishop’s Park across Lambeth Bridge. At 4.30pm there will be a finale rally at Millbank outside Parliament with inspiring speakers and the new government and opposition parties will be invited to respond to the crowd.

For further information please see the full lobby guide.¬† On the day you can also drop into the Speak Up HQ at St John’s Church, Smith Square, to ask any questions and pick up resources. Operation Noah will also have a stand here.

How can you get involved?

  • After the election on 7 May write to your MP to invite them to meet with you at the lobby. A sample letter is available in the lobby guide. You can also use the online tool available here.
  • Encourage members of your church and others to join you on the day. It is important that climate change is seen as a mainstream issue that affects us all, so a good turn out from a wide cross-section of people is needed. Some transport is being arranged for groups around the country – please see the travel page for details.
  • Organise a bunting-making session to write messages about what you love and what you want to protect from climate change. Lots of bunting will be displayed in the streets around Parliament with messages from across the UK to show politicians the breadth of support. Instructions for bunting-making is available in the lobby guide.
  • Contact your local press or radio to tell them that local people will be going to the mass climate lobby. A sample press release is available in the lobby guide. Remember to take a photo of your bunting-making session for the press or invite them along.
  • Distribute fliers and posters in your church and locality – the poster can be downloaded here and hard-copies of the flier and poster can be requested from:
