Operation Noah’s Bright Now Campaign Shortlisted for ‘David & Goliath’ Award

Operation Noah has learned that our Bright Now campaign has been shortlisted for the ‘David & Goliath Award’ as part of the National Campaigner Awards 2022, presented by the Sheila McKechnie Foundation.

The award – which will be handed out on 19 May – is given to ‘individuals or small campaign groups that take on much bigger organisations and challenge vested power’. In addition to our campaign, two other campaigns were nominated, including ‘End Our Cladding Scandal’.

Though Operation Noah has a small staff and income, our Bright Now campaign has now seen nearly every major denomination in the UK divest from fossil fuels, and we are now able to say that ten Church of England dioceses have formally divested from fossil fuels or have pledged not to invest in fossil fuels in the future – up from zero dioceses in early 2021!

Before the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow (COP26), we also helped organise the largest-ever joint divestment announcement by faith groups, and we are pleased to report that we have now settled on a date for our next Global Divestment Announcement – 5 July 2022 – which we hope will be even bigger than our last (record-breaking) one.

Thank you for everything you do to encourage and campaign with us, and also for your donations, which keep us going! We take inspiration from what Jesus told his disciples: ‘Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God, everything is possible’ (Matthew 19:26).
