Even with the announcement of recent government support for energy bills, it’s estimated that 7 million households – that’s over 16 million people, including pensioners, disabled people and parents across the UK – will still be in fuel poverty this winter. People are already facing impossible choices – and many more will too unless more action is taken.

Methodist Church of Great Britain endorses the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty

At its 2022 Conference in June, the Methodist Church of Great Britain unanimously endorsed the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, becoming the largest denomination in the UK to join the movement calling for an end to all new oil and gas exploration around the world and for a fair, just transition the supports workers and communities in the transition to renewable energy.

‘You have to love what you’re seeking to protect’ – Jim Green and Chris Hull continue divestment pilgrimage

In April, divestment campaigners Jim Green and Chris Hull cycled from their homes in Norwich to three Church of England dioceses on a divestment pilgrimage. Yet Jim said he felt he could do more, and earlier this month, he cycled to four additional dioceses, all of which are still invested in fossil fuels. Next week, Jim plans to cycle to five more dioceses that have yet to divest, with Chris joining for part of the ride.

Operation Noah is pleased to announce that we have received funding to expand our successful Bright Now campaign – which works with UK Churches to divest from fossil fuels and invest in climate solutions – and have hired two new staff members with this funding, Julia Corcoran and Sharon Hall, doubling our Bright Now staff.
