Divest the Church of England: attend our online training session on 15 March

The Church of England is still heavily invested in fossil fuels despite the fact that oil, gas and coal are literally fuelling the climate crisis, but with your help, we can change that. Register for our one-hour ‘Divest the Church of England’ training session, which we’ll hold Zoom on Tuesday 15 March at 5.30pm. Register for this one-hour training session here.

Scientists say we must effectively cut emissions in half this decade to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis, yet every major fossil fuel company stands in the way of the effort to limit warming to 1.5C. In fact, all the major fossil fuel companies plan to exploit new fossil fuel reserves against the explicit warnings of the UN and the International Energy Agency.

Operation Noah are launching a national campaign, empowering people at the grassroots to call on the Church of England to divest its remaining investments in fossil fuels and invest directly in climate solutions.

As part of this campaign, we’re training leaders from around the country with the intention that every leader will hold one or more ‘listening meetings’ with 6-12 people each (in person or on Zoom) as part of a listening campaign. As part of the campaign, leaders will invite interested contacts to learn more about the Church of England’s fossil fuel investments, to share stories about how these investments impact them and to discuss what, if anything, they want to do about it.

Training to be a leader in this campaign is easy: just come to our 15 March training session on Zoom at 5.30pm. We’ll show you how to run a listening meeting (you’ll learn by participating in one!). We will also provide you with all the materials you’ll need to run a listening meeting in your local church, parish or neighbourhood. Together, we can call on the Church of England to love God and neighbour by divesting from all fossil fuels immediately.
